The resort town of Niseko is located 2 hours west of Sapporo, the capital of Japan’s northernmost prefecture, Hokkaido.

Referred to as the “Aspen of Asia,” Niseko is a renowned winter destination celebrated for its exceptional powder snow. Winter sports lovers from around the world visit to enjoy the world-class skiing and snowboarding of the Niseko United Ski’s, which features four interconnected resorts accessible from the same peak, allowing visitors to descend from a shared summit between the months of December to March. The four resorts include:

Luxury hotels have increasingly established their presence in the surrounding area offering their world class services to international travelers making their stay easy with foreign staff, food, and services all available in their native languages that include English, Chinese and Korean.

By 2030, the area will be further accessible with bullet train access being developed from central Tokyo that makes the trip in just 4.5 hours, with the neighboring town of Kutchan being the connection point with the broader rail network. This development will also enable faster travel to Sapporo, reducing the journey to just 30 minutes, a significant improvement from the current two-hour travel time.

Check In

Check-in at Youraku Hotel is handled through a small sliding window where you’ll face a staff member directly at eye level. Positioned to your left as you drive into the parking lot, the front desk window is marked with “フロント” in white. The staff member will provide information about available rooms and their costs in Japanese.

Unlike the seamless, anonymous process typical of traditional love hotels, Youraku Hotel maintains a more old school approach. You’ll need to to provide some basic details on paper during the check-in process, much like you would at a conventional hotel, involving face-to-face interaction.

  • Name
  • Address
  • Contact Phone Number

Only cash payments are accepted, as there are no credit card processing facilities. With the fee paid you’ll receive a key with your room number attached for your stay.

The rooms are situated above each individual carport, allowing you to park your vehicle and access your room directly without being seen. A green privacy curtain is also available that rolls down over the entire front of the carport to cover your vehicle during your entire stay.

Room

I stayed in room 201, and my initial impression was that the space had an antique charm but was well-maintained and clean. The room was simple yet practical, featuring the essentials: a comfortable bed, a TV, and a basic bathroom. While the decor was minimalistic, everything was in good condition. The room was relatively quiet and offered a comfortable environment for the stay.
